About Fu Shan Mountain Scenic Area, Starting from the Legend of ‘Scorpion Mountain’

Located 15 kilometers east of the town of Heyang, in Lingquan Village, Lingquan Village is a famous wealthy village in Heyang. Fu Shan is hidden in the valley southeast of the village, and when viewed from afar, it looks like a crab-tailed dragon heading east. The people of Lingquan jokingly say that their village became a wealthy village because Fu Shan brought them good fortune and the reason for being stung by scorpions.

Regarding 'Scorpion Mountain', there is a moving legend. Unknown years and months, there lived an old man named Panfu in Lingquan Village, who lived a meager life and struggled to make ends meet. However, he had a kind heart and whenever he encountered someone in need, he always tried his best to help. Eventually, his kindness touched the benevolence of Jupiter. One night, Panfu was resting in his yard when he had a dream that a large scorpion crawled into his house, approaching him constantly, and the scorpion's tail was at the top, and whatever it touched turned into gold. He suddenly woke up and saw that a scorpion had just passed by under his feet. He went into the house and was stunned. The dream came true! He hurried out to chase the magical scorpion, and a white light flashed in the sky, and a mountain appeared before Panfu, and he looked at the mountain carefully. It was shaped like the big scorpion. Panfu immediately knelt and thanked him, and he heard a voice from the mountain, 'If your heart is towards goodness, you will surely have a reward.' From then on, the people of Lingquan Village were like Panfu Old Man, and everyone had a kind heart that turned towards goodness.

Fu Shan was recorded to have been built during the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan 7th year, and has now been around 1300 years old. It was repeatedly rebuilt during the Ming Wanli, Qing Kangxi, Tongzhi, and Qingdao eras, forming pavilions, towers, and halls with a staggered and beautiful layout. Furthermore, the mountain was covered with a large number of ancient pine trees that grew naturally, and it was known as 'One peak, towering and lush; thousands of pines surrounding the green' . Qing Dynasty scholar Dang De Bu inscribed a calligraphy praising it, saying 'Exquisite as the end of the Southern Mountains'. It has always been a tourist attraction in the Wei North region. Now it is integrated with the Chaqu River scenic area, forming the entrance area. In 2013, it was listed as the fourth batch of cultural relics protection units in Shaanxi Province.

Fu Shan has Buddhist temples, Taoist towers, and academies, forming a unique phenomenon of integrating Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The deities in the temple are incredibly powerful, and the annual seven-eleventh ancient temple fair attracts countless pilgrims who come to pray, which is a true reflection of Liu Yu's words in 'The Memorial Hall': 'Mountains are not about height, but about having a deity, water is not about depth, but about having a dragon, which is sacred.'
